Hello to all
Oatka gunsmith shop started in 2009 and is owned and operated by me , I'm Tom Jackson a graduate of Pennsylvania Gunsmith Schools Master Gunsmith Program. After years of gunsmithing as a hobby and working as a machinist , I decided to go to school and pursue the career I love as a professional Master Gunsmith.Oatka Gunsmith Shop is located in the beautiful little village of Scottsville , NY. With the premier trout fishing stream in the area {Oatka creek} just in front of us, I decided to name the shop after it, but only the local people can pronounce it properly. Some of you may remember me from Gander Mountain .I relocated to Rochester and I was the gunsmith there from the time it opened in 2003 until March of 2008. Originally from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, I became interested in firearms at a very you age. My fathers family are all hunters and "gun nuts". His cousin Wilber was a self taught gunsmith who did all the customizing and gunsmithing for the family and many others from his shop in the back of his garage in the small town of Oakdale PA just outside Pittsburgh. I suppose I inherited my love of the trade and skills from him . Years after his passing I became the gunsmith as a hobby for my family and friends where I gained years of valuable experience. I still have guns that he customized and blued and it is some of the finest work i've ever seen. For years I worked as a machinist for a steel company in Pittsburgh . they taught me the trade and it has served me well. I also worked for several job shops in the Pittsburgh area before becoming a gunsmith full time. I love the Rochester area . I have met a lot of good people in the region as customers that became friends in my gunsmithing career here and i'm hoping to meet more .Thats why I decided to open my shop to give the shooting public here a gunsmith you can trust and call a friend. If I never did any work for you please stop in and see me and just chat for a while and if I have done work for you , to you all I say thank you for allowing me to serve you in the past and I'M BACK .
